Sara Update 50

Sara Update 50 – Things are looking way up!

Hi Everybody,

This an update I wrote back in July…but my computer stopped working and I couldn’t access the e-mal list til now. Much has happened…some really great stuff since then…but I’ll tell you that story soon in Update 51….in the meantime here’s to catching up:

Video of Sara Ann the Star!

Here’s some great, great news!!! Candice Spielman, the cinematographer who shot 10 hours of Sara Ann for a documentary last summer, has just released a 2 minute preview. You can view it at www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-5d_vVdgW4  or go to www.Youtube.com and type in SaraAnnKronrot (without spaces). Please share your thoughts in her comment box at YouTube. Let Candice know you think she should finish it!

 Being in the Ocean

There are times in your life when you feel the ocean swell. The waves become so high you don’t know if they are survivable anymore. Swimming no longer really matters, and if you can ever get to where you intended to go, then you are relying on sheer Grace. You are riding the crests and swells and getting dunked and gasping for air and when you think you can’t go another minute—suddenly the tide turns. The waves recede and you find yourself on the beach…a new beach, a new day, bruised and battered but still very thankful to be alive. That is us, our family, from this year of hospital and seizure hell. But if I’m not mistaken, the tide is turning. Good things are in the offing and hope is shining high on our horizon.

 New Cat

A noticeable change began with the arrival of our new cat, Harriet Tubman. Her previous owner called her Harriet but I added the Tubman and here’s why. I wanted the many children coming here to know the story of Harriet Tubman (the real one) who helped slaves escape via the underground railway. I’ve heard there are parts of the underground railway near us in New Jersey, and there was certainly some in the Lancaster area, where I believe they stage re-enactments. I personally am fond of the real Harriet Tubman because she had nothing and she relied on God alone. I have this quote of hers from a Celestial Seasonings box taped to my kitchen cabinet door: “When you get into a tight place and everything seems to go against you, till it seems as though you could not hold on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn.” Harriet banked on it, and now so do we.

Cat Harriet has taken a liking to us all. She jumped on Sara and walked up her body and kissed her right on the mouth the first time she saw her. Her markings are almost identical to Rodolfo’s, our beloved tabby of 21 years. Harriet’s mannerisms are entirely her own, though. She loves to play fetch like a dog with little soft ping pong size balls. And her favorite napping spot is draped around our throats! Now if she will just catch that darn mouse!!!

 Switching Meds

We got Sara off the one seizure med that was actually making her worse instead of better—she began having seizures every day. Now it’s back to only a couple of times a week. They are not as severe either, so we are minus the ambulance rides followed by the obligatory hospital stay that had become her pattern. This is just part of the journey we’ve been on all year since she was diagnosed as epileptic, a journey of trying to decipher which meds will be the golden bullet that works. Not there yet…but closer than when we started out.

 Nice Weather

Two weeks ago, during that wonderful San Diego style weather, Sara Ann was enjoying 3 and 4 hour long walks at our nearby park with her nurse. She likes dogs of every sort, baseball games (she loves the sound of the bat!), ponds with ducks, many large trees, robins, squirrels, flowers and breezes. She loves her hair flying in the wind when it’s not wrapped up tight in her “hey girl hey” baseball cap. She is so sensitive to heat and cold that jaunts to the park are rare. She’s breathing better and sleeping better. Thanks for the nice weather, God!

 Another Drawing

Sara is taking summer school and enjoying watching video shorts on her laptop. She is also drawing more pictures. This week she drew the ocean, the subject that she was studying in school. Then she put a boat on it. I asked Sara what kind of boat and suddenly her hand shot up and there was a large sail on the page. Next came something dark under the water. A shark? No. Dolphin? No. Too big for that. Oh, it’s as big as the ship…must be a whale!!! She smiled when I got it right.

The NJ Commission for the Blind is having new large letter books and audio tapes shipped out to Sara monthly. Being read to is absolutely Sara’s favorite pastime. Their representative was here recently and she suggested different ways for us to present materials to Sara so there is more contrast and her eyes can see more clearly.

We hope you all  enjoyed the summer sun and slower pace as much as we did.

Much love,

Melissa, Hugh and Sara Ann

Here is a beautiful prayer for the Gulf that a friend sent me:

Dr. Masaru Emoto’s healing prayer for the Gulf

“I send the energy of love and gratitude to the water and all the living creatures in the Gulf of Mexico and its surroundings. To the whales, dolphins, pelicans, fish, shellfish, plankton, coral, algae, and all living creatures…

“I am sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you. I love you.

“We are passing this request to people who we believe might be willing to participate in this prayer, to set an intention of love and healing that is so large, so overwhelming that we can perform a miracle in the Gulf of Mexico. We are not powerless. We are powerful. Our united energy, speaking this prayer daily—multiple times daily—can literally shift the balance of destruction that is happening. We don’t have to know how. We just have to recognize that the power of love is greater than any power active in the Universe today.”?
